When Stan arrived on our yard in November 01 it was clear that we had a very daunting task ahead, as he had already been so successful with previous jockeys, and I thought it impossible to compare to this success.

However, the work began over the winter, going show jumping most weekends where I learned of Stan's incredible scope and presence in the ring. Soon the season was upon us, and at our first RIHS qualifier Stan jumped a foot perfect clear, and then went on to win and take champion. This was completely unexpected as it was our first proper show, but the day just got better when Stan surprised us all by winning the show hunter pony class and qualifying for RIHS in that as well!

This season has been the best ever, we won and got champion at shows including Midland county, Cheshire county, Lincoln, B.S.P.S Wales, Wincanton, and reserve at Royal Windsor, all of which were HOYS qualifiers.

Our week at the champs started well, Stan won his class in the inter country teams competition, came 2nd in the Gold Cup and got champion WHP in the premier league red division. We also got through to the second stage of the Blue Riband SHP, which in itself was an achievement; as for us this was just Stan's "extra" class.

By the Saturday I had expected Stan to be very tired, but he came out that morning and performed a great 2-minute show in the second stage of the Blue Riband SHP, getting second highest marks. It was then a mad rush to change bridles and get over to the Whitehall ring in time to walk the Desert Orchid course. As always, the long and testing course caught a lot of ponies out, but Stan flew round it tirelessly, and as we jumped over the last fence I realised we had jumped clear!

The evening performance started, for us, when we got a completely unexpected 2nd in our "extra" class, the Blue Riband SHP, we were then called back into the arena for our Desert Orchid class presentation. It was a dream for me to jump clear Desert Orchid with Stan, so when we were called forward to win, it was ... amazing!

Later that evening was the Blue Riband SHP championship where we had to do a free style show. Stan usually does good shows, but in this he performed impeccably, and went on to take the reserve spot! The night just got better and better when in the Desert Orchid championship we were announced champion. This was nothing less than a dream come true.

In the Supreme championship Stan, although very tired by this point, did everything I asked of him and went beautifully, as did the other ponies in the fantastic line up. This had been the best Champs ever, and the most unbelievable night, so when we were called forward as supreme it was hard to believe. Cantering down the spotlight that last time is something I will never forget. BSPS Supreme Champion is something I never even dared to dream about, and something I never thought I would achieve.

Stan is the most talented pony I have ever known, and I am extremely proud of him. I couldn't have asked him to have gone any better, and from the bottom of my heart I would like to thank Mike Butcher and Lynne Lloyd for this, they have both put so many hours into teaching me, not just with Stan, but for the last 7 years. I also owe special thanks to the Lears family, who have let me have Stan, and been so supportive throughtout the year. Thank you to my parents, you make this all possible for me, and thank you to Stan, you're the best!
