As the world of showing ponies has grown so the British Show Pony Society has had to evolve and move with the times. From an original repertoire of three height classes of show ponies it has built up to encompass Lead Rein/First Ridden for the tiniest children through show and Working Hunter Pony classes up to Intermediate classes for young adults.

This broad spectrum of classes attracts all who love to show ponies from those who can spend tens of thousands on a potential star to those who have the luck to be in the right place at the right time to spot a rare "bargain" although the latter usually requires more than a little time to be spent on them which is why they were cheap in the first place.

With qualifiers spread across the country, children have the opportunity to vist most parts of England, Scotland and Wales which not only broadens their geographical mind but allows them to make friends from all backgrounds who share the common interest. At the Summer Championships Show held at The East of England Showground, Peterborough in September each year, people can once again meet up as they compete against each other for National Honours.

In addition to competitions on the mainland, the Society regularly sends teams to Ireland and last year welcomed a team from South Africa. In previous years French, Belgian and even Australian children have all come to the BSPS International Events.
