Pat Dorman

PatDormanWebHello, my name is Pat Dorman, usually known as ‘Aunty Pat’ to most junior members.  It has been an honour to be Chairman of Area 3A from 2007, and Vice Chairman in previous  years.

I have been a BSPS member and judge for about 35 years and it has been a privilege to be invited to judge at most major shows throughout the country, making many friends along the way.

My daughter Philippa (known to many of you an equestrian artist) rode at the Championships at Peterborough aged 4 and continued to do so until she was too old !!!!

My little grand daughters are now taking up the reins! How wonderful is that!

I was a welfare officer for the BHS for at least 25 years and was delighted to receive the Guy Cubitt award for services to the Pony Club being chief instructor to the Cleveland Hunt Branch, taking my event/dressage teams to many successes.

My favourite horse was “Hilbra Drummer Boy” T.B X Welsh D, brought as a 2yr old and lived happily and healthily until he was 32!  buried, along with all our other oldies on the farm.  He gave me much enjoyment and success Showing, Dressage, Novice Eventing etc.

We have a super area, fantastic children and ponies and together with my hard-working committee and God willing, I hope to continue for a few more years!!

SueWilliamsWebI represented the Area Chairmen on Council for three years and was then elected onto Council in 2009.

I am on the Assessment, Qualifying shows, Marketing and Communications, Winter and Heritage Championship shows sub-committees.

Some of my spare time is taken up with stewarding at many shows during the year including the B.S.P.S Championships shows. I also enjoy gardening, reading, cooking and travelling.

I first joined the B.S.P.S. in 1985, my three children have all enjoyed competing, and we have had some happy times on our camp at the B.S.P.S. Champs with friends from all over the country whom many are still friends today.

I joined Area 5 Committee in 1987, served as treasurer for 14 years before becoming chairperson in 2004.  I work very hard for the area and hope all the members find me approachable, as I will always do my best to help.

I am a starred Panel Judge and seeing the great big smile on a winning child’s face makes it all worthwhile.

SandraBucknellWebA Life Member of the society for over 40 years.  Held all offices at area level over the years, on Judges Panel for over 25 years.

A Council Member for 10 years.  Introduced and ran the Gold Cup Combined  Training classes for 10 years.

As a family produced W.H.P.’s including “Tonto”, Peterborough WHP Champion twice, and top Show Ponies.  No S.H.P.’s as there were no classes then!  Whilst I love ponies my first passion is Eventing, so I now produce top F.E.I. event ponies who can also do WHP occasionally.  I hunted for over 50 years and rode advanced level Dressage.

I have been actively involved in showing both horses and ponies now for almost 25 years.  My daughter Victoria began on the Lead Rein and progressed through the height classes to Intermediate.

As a child and young adult my passion was Show Jumping so I was delighted when Victoria, then 13 years old, declared she wanted to compete in WHP classes.  We had a fantastic 14hh pony “Murphy Dunnit” with whom we had great success and Murphy and Victoria were England team members many times over.  We have also been lucky enough to own that “Horse of a lifetime” “Kelsterton Merlin” who was crowned Champion WHP at HOYS in 2008.

Several years ago I decided that I would like to become more involved with the BSPS and joined the Committee of Area 9B.  I then progressed as Area Secretary and retained that position for several years until 2010 when I became Area Chairman.

I am on the Judges Panel and have both judged and stewarded at many shows across the country including the Championships.

Lyn David

LynDavidWebMy name is Lyn David and I am in my fourth year as Chairman of BSPS Area 11.

Before becoming Chairman I served on the Committee for several years, taking over the running of our Summer Show and helping organise Teach-Ins.

I am married and have run the clerical side of my husband’s roofing company since 1973.

I have two grown up daughters who both rode from a young age, competing in showing and Pony Club.  I was Secretary of Poole Pony Club for 8 years during the 1980’s.
I diversified in 1990 taking an NVQ in Childcare and worked as a Pre-School Manager for 8 years and also as a one to one Special Needs assistant in my local First School.

I have two grandchildren, a boy and a girl.  Amy started riding at 3 years old and has had much fun as a member of the BSPS from Lead Rein classes through Working Hunter Ponies and Show Hunter Ponies.  My Grandson Tony decided motorbike scrambling and fishing were better options!!

The aim of myself and the Committee is to promote a happy and friendly area for our members where they can meet not just at shows, but at our many training days and Christmas Points Parties where there is more time to get to know each other and to share any ideas we may have regarding the Area.

Chris Yates

ChrisYates2WebI am very fortunate to be Chairman of  what is probably the UK’s most westerly BSPS Area and one surrounded on three sides by water  – nearly no neighbours !!

Consequently I have every respect for the high achievements of our showing members who often have to travel long distances at ever higher costs to regularly compete and succeed at the top level – well done to all of them.

In addition to the Cornish based members we have members as far away as Somerset, Sussex and beyond.

Our Committee and officers are  hard working and we are delighted to have three ‘younger’ members – Lucinda Waters, Lucy Bowden, Heidi Masters and Zoe Barbery who cover press officer , Secretarial and other duties together with full responsibility for our Autumn show – not to mention significantly lowering the average age of the committee !

The Area runs training sessions during the year, supports young judges and puts on 4 Shows – Spring [RIHS qualifiers], Summer Show with Olympia semi-final qualifiers and Blue Riband plus others] , Autumn and Winter Shows. Recently we had a very successful dog show raising funds for the Area and giving us an insight into the ‘doggy world’ from tiny pooches to some the size of small horses. Great fun, no fights and a real earner. Other social events include a quiz night which highlights how little some of us actually know and how much others unfortunately do !

The highlight of the year is our Annual Points Awards Evening at the beginning of December which doubles as a Xmas Party attended by over 180 members, pony people personalities, friends and supporters of the Area . A fab three course meal and awards presentation is followed by a visit from Father Christmas and lively disco into the early hours. As usual it is a real window on how lucky we are to have such a great bunch of mutually supportive riders of all ages able to enjoy each others success in what can sometimes be a very competitive sport.

Many thanks to ALL those involved in, friends of and supporters of Area 13A – we thank you all and wish everyone in the BSPS an enjoyable showing season.

Carolyn Whiteley

CarolynWhiteleyWebAfter what feels like a lifetime of producing ponies for the show ring and whilst for most of this time bringing up two wonderful daughters I have moved on and diversified my interests one of which has resulted in my being elected as Area Chairman for Area 15.

As well as this role, my other equestrian pursuits involve teaching at pony clubs, clinins and one-to-one, judging being on most BSPS panels, helping with hunters through the hunting season and occasionally days at the races.

Despite all of this I also spend much time being a granny to Oscar and Lilia, supporting my two daughters Helen and Alison with their own equestrian pursuits both here and in Eire, regular visits to the gym, holidays in tropical paradises and when I can I love cooking and gardening.

I do however, avoid housework, winter and snakes!

Area 15A
Pat Monaghan

PatMonaghanWebI have been Chairman of BSPS Area 15A for nearly 20 years.  We have had a very hardworking committee who mainly had children competing and no longer do.  We have been very fortunate to have our own Committee Room on Jan and Peter Reeds Farm.  We run a very large Summer Show with HOYS qualifiers and the Committee do all the Judges and Stewards lunches.  A good committee makes a good Area.

We are very lucky with our Area Committee who have run Teach-In for days at their own home.

At a Committee we are all getting older and at our Christmas party we asked for help and were answered by the wonderful youngsters who helped at Winter Show and are joining our Committee.

The children of Area 15A are second to none.  They are all good friends and we also have some outstanding talent among our riders.  We have won the Show pony Teams three times and I am very proud of our members.
